Net-Working for Oysters!
Join GBF for a hands-on workday preparing oyster restoration and monitoring materials for the upcoming season so they can be reused in the field. This work helps oysters get into the water sooner, supporting reef growth and improved water quality.
As a Supply Upkeep Volunteer, you will support oyster restoration by helping prepare and maintain reusable materials using hand tools.
In this role, you may help with:
- Cleaning and preparing oyster garden cages using brushes so they can be reused for the upcoming season
- Sewing pre-cut shrimp nets with paracord to create oyster bags for monitoring and restoration
- Cutting and preparing new materials for oyster garden cages as needed
- Working alongside other volunteers to keep materials organized and ready for field use
No experience is needed. All gloves, materials, and supplies will be provided.
This workday takes place at GBF Headquarters in Kemah. Restrooms will be available onsite. Complimentary pizza and sodas will be provided as a thank-you for lending a hand.
