What we throw away doesn’t go away.
Even the smallest pieces of trash can have a ripple effect on marine life, communities, and future generations. As the second most productive estuary in the United States, Galveston Bay supports both wildlife and people who depend on its resources.
You and your fellow volunteers will use gloves, trash grabbers, buckets, and bags to collect and remove litter from the shoreline. You will also help remove monofilament, which is especially dangerous for wildlife due to engagement risks.
Volunteering with the Galveston Bay Foundation for this cleanup directly improves the Bay’s health and strengthens a growing community of residents working to protect it.
No experience is necessary; we will show you what to do! No Restrooms on site. There are some gas stations nearby if you need to stop prior to arrival.
MINORS
All minors must be accompanied by a registered parent/guardian or approved chaperone over the age of 18. Parents or guardians must register and complete a waiver for minors (under age 18).
Marine debris poses a serious threat to this ecosystem. Trash that enters the Bay can:
- entangle or be eaten by wildlife,
- damage fragile habitats,
- block oxygen from reaching the water,
- and release harmful chemicals that impact both animals and people.
