Help Power Bike Around the Bay
Bike Around the Bay is a two-day, 175-mile ride around Galveston Bay that brings together cyclists, volunteers, and supporters to celebrate and protect our beloved Bay.
Volunteers are involved in this ride from start to finish. You will find them helping us prepare supplies before the ride, riding as EMT's, taking photos, and cheering riders as they come across the finish line.
With so many elements to make the event happen, there is a place for everyone to pitch in no matter what your schedule or energy level might be.
Volunteer for Bike Around the Bay
This is Galveston Bay Foundation's most complex and high-energy event, but no bike is required to help. You can choose an opportunity that works for you and your schedule.

Help Host a Breakpoint
Many organizations return year after year because hosting a breakpoint is one of the most rewarding ways to volunteer during Bike Around the Bay.
GBF provides all of the supplies and equipment. Your team just shows up ready to showcase your creativity and team spirit! Sites on East Bay, Bolivar, and Upper West Bay available.
As a Breakpoint Team, you can expect to:
- Recruit ~10-15 volunteers, including one team captain
- Create a unique team-building experience
- Receive all food, beverages, equipment, and supplies
- Receive training on how to operate your breakpoint
On Event Day, your team will:
- Set up equipment and supplies before riders arrive
- Welcome and assist cyclists throughout the day
- Keep food and beverages stocked
- Break down and clean up your site
- Cheer on riders as they cycle to support Galveston Bay

Day 1 | Saturday, October 17
Start Line - Baytown
6:00–9:00 AM
It is an early day, but it goes quick! Volunteers help set up the Start Line and collect rider luggage as they check in.

Finish Line - Galveston
Two shifts available:
9:00 AM–1:30 PM
2:00–6:30 PM
In the morning, volunteers will help setup the Finish Line for the family-friendly Bike Around the Island, then pass the baton to our afternoon volunteers who will help close it down until Day 2. Breakfast & Lunch provided.
