Description

Marsh Mania volunteers restoring habitat

Sign up for Marsh Mania!

It's time to roll up your sleeves, get a little muddy, and restore habitat for Galveston Bay!

This year, we are thrilled to announce we will again host two fall planting events with two incredible partners, Exploration Green and Galveston County Parks.

No prior planting experience is needed. GBF staff and experienced Team Captains will show you the ropes at each planting.

Step 1 - Create or Update Your Account

Last year, we moved to a new volunteer management system that better protects your privacy and better supports our programs.

If you haven't volunteered with us or if it has been over a year since you have, you'll want to create or update your account first.

Create Your Account

  1. Open  https://bit.ly/volunteerwithgbf
  2. Enter your name, email, postal code, and password, and click Create account.
  3. You'll be emailed a code to verify your email address. Copy and paste that code into the field when prompted and click Verify Email.
  4. Start the General Volunteer Track to provide us your shirt size and dietary restrictions, and to sign the annual service waiver.

Haven't Volunteered Since Summer 2025?

You will need to reset your password and sign the annual waiver. Open  https://bit.ly/volunteerwithgbf , select “Already have an account?”, then follow the forgot-password option.

Questions or need help? Email volunteer@galvbay.org to get in contact with the Volunteer Team.

Step 2 - Choose Your Marsh Mania Planting

Choose from two community plantings that will both help restore important marsh habitat.

Both sites have knee-high water. Be prepared to enter the water to plant.

All Marsh Maniacs will receive a T-shirt and giveaways!

Paul Hopkins Park | September 19

8:00-11:30 AM | Ages 14+ | Breakfast provided

We'll start the morning off with a cleanup, then plant smooth cordgrass to restore shoreline habitat connected to Galveston Bay.

Exploration Green | September 26

9:00 AM-12:30 PM | Ages 12+

Plant freshwater marsh plants at Exploration Green ↗ , where GBF holds a conservation easement protecting this important habitat.

Step 3 - Prepare to Plant

Our Volunteer Team will send you emails one week in advance of the event with notes on parking and logistics.

In the meantime, you can prepare by:

  • Pulling out those old lace-up sneakers. You'll need something that stays on your foot and will not slip off. No crocs, no flip-flops.
  • Planing your route. Don't wait until the morning of the event to decide how to get to the site.
  • Downloading the Causer app ↗ for self check-in.
  • The best day to prepare for a day outdoors in sunny weather is the day prior. Review GBF Heat Safety guidance ↗ before volunteering.

Thank You for Volunteering!

Over the years, volunteers like you have helped restore hundreds of acres of marsh, and we are eager to keep the momentum growing.

Thank you for helping us celebrate our shared commitment to protecting Galveston Bay.

The water, the wetlands, and wildlife thank you too!
