Oyster Reef Building at Moody Gardens
We will be back at the Moody Gardens Golf Course on Thursday, April 23 from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM to continue work there to create habitat for new oysters!
Volunteers will use recycled oyster shells collected through GBF’s Oyster Shell Recycling Program ↗ to build this new reef.
This is a joint project with our partners at Moody Gardens. Registration and coordination is being managed through them. However, GBF staff will be onsite the day of the event.
What You Will Do
- Transport filled oyster shell bags from the parking area to the worksite using golf carts
- Move bags from carts to volunteers working in the water
- Enter shallow water to stack bags and build the reef structure
What to Bring and Wear
- Reusable water bottle
- Change of clothes and towel
- Closed-toe shoes
- Clothes you don’t mind getting wet and dirty (moisture-wicking recommended)
All supplies, including gloves, will be provided. Staff will be on-site to guide you and ensure safety.
