Houston Oyster & SeaFest Volunteers

Help celebrate the treasures of Galveston Bay and boost our Oyster Shell Recycling Program at our upcoming Houston Oyster & SeaFest on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

Your support at this event helps return oyster shell to the Bay to build new reefs and protect our shorelines.

Volunteer Shifts

This year we are moving the event from Buffalo Bayou Waterworks to Autry Park near downtown Houston.

As we work to prepare for hosting in our new location, volunteer capacity and shift times may change slightly.

Setup (AM)

~7:30 am–10:30 am | Ages 14+

  • Unload and place event materials
  • Help set up signage, booths, recycling stations, and water stations
  • Assist staff and partners with final prep

Event Support

10:30 am–3:30 pm | Ages 18+

  • Rotate between stations (oyster recycling, partner support, general support)
  • Help maintain clean, welcoming event spaces
  • Support preliminary cleanup as the event winds down

Lunch provided. Volunteers rotate roles and will have a chance to experience the event.

Breakdown

2:00 pm–4:30 pm | Ages 18+

  • Work in teams to dismantle booths and signage
  • Load materials and assist with final site cleanup
  • Help ensure everything is packed out safely and efficiently

Snacks and beverages provided. Arrive up to 1 hour early to experience the festival.

What to Expect

This is an outdoor festival in an urban setting where alcohol is served. For this reason, volunteer roles during event hours are limited to ages 18+.

You can expect moderate physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and carrying supplies. Closed-toe shoes are required.

Volunteer communications

  • You will receive a confirmation email after you RSVP.
  • A 1-week reminder email will include more details about your shift.
  • A 48-hour confirmation request will be sent. Please respond to confirm your participation.

Groups are welcome and preferred for some roles! If you are registering a youth group or corporate team, please contact volunteer@galvbay.org to learn more.

Spots may be limited per shift to support smooth event operations.
