Volunteer: Holiday Craft Party: Upcycle with Marine Debris

Celebrate the season and support cleaner shorelines by joining the Galveston Bay Foundation’s Water Protection Marine Debris team for a creative afternoon of upcycling using debris collected during GBF’s Marine Debris surveys.

You will transform these materials, once harmful to wildlife and habitats, into meaningful gifts or decorations you can keep for yourself like holiday crafts, cards, ornaments, and rain chains.

You can also create a personal monofilament and nurdle collection container which you can use on your own to remove plastics and fishing line from reentering local waterways.

By turning marine debris into art, you will help raise awareness about plastic pollution, support ongoing citizen science efforts, and inspire others to care for Galveston Bay.

This is a relaxed, seated volunteer opportunity. All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own decorative items such as beads, stickers, or pens to personalize your creations.

Staff will provide a short demonstration and discussion about how these materials affect the Bay and how volunteers can continue making a difference throughout the year.

Learn More at nurdlepatrol.org and texasseagrant.org.
